National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI) established in 2018 in Vadodara, Gujarat has been set up with a vision to create a world class Institution, equally focused between teaching and research in the transportation sector in the country. The university will eventually have 5 schools/departments namely Engineering & Applied Science; Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences; Transportation Planning & Design; Management & Leadership; Transport Policy and Law, and house several centres of excellence in Transportation, Technology, Operations and Communications in partnership with leading universities and institutions from around the world.

The Deemed to be University opened its doors to the first batch of 100 students in 2018 and has been running two undergraduate programmes. It aims to start several new postgraduate and undergraduate programmes from the coming academic year.

NRTI is looking for dynamic leaders, academics and professionals as Faculty members at various levels to lead and contribute to establishment of academic departments, research projects, consultancies and executive education programs for senior management personnel in Indian Railways, other civil services, public and private sector organisations in the Indian sub-continent. ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATION: EXPERIENCE (Required on the date of application): Professor** Level 14 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix :
  • An eminent scholar with a Ph.D. degree in concerned/ allied/relevant discipline and minimum 10 years of teaching/research/professional experience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor/ Professor and/ or research experience at equivalent level at the university/ national level institutions, organization or industry as on the date of application.
  • The candidate should have demonstrated leadership in a specific area of specialization in terms of guiding Ph.D. students, publication record (at least 10) in peer reviewed or UGC listed reputed journals, in conferences, patents, laboratory/course development and/or other recognized relevant professional activities.
Associate Professor**

Level 13A of 7th CPC Pay Matrix

  • Candidates with a good academic record with a Ph.D. degree in the concerned/ allied/ relevant disciplines and a minimum of 8 years of teaching/research/professional experience of which at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor in a university, college or accredited research institution/ industry as on the date of application.
  • The candidate should have demonstrated leadership in research in a specific area of specialization in terms of guiding M.Tech./ MBA or Ph.D. students, have a strong record of publications (minimum of 7 publications) in peer reviewed or UGC listed reputed journals, participation in conferences, patents, laboratory/course development and/or other recognized relevant professional activities.
Assistant Professor**

Level 12 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix

  • A Master’s degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) in a concerned/ allied/ relevant subject from an Indian university or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
  • Additionally, the candidate must have cleared the national eligibility test conducted by the UGC or the CSIR or a similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/ SET or have been awarded a Ph.D. degree in accordance with the UGC regulations/ Ph. D, from a foreign university or institution ranking among top 500 in the old university ranking.
  • A minimum of three years teaching/research/professional experience, excluding the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D.
  • Candidate should have demonstrated research capabilities in terms of publications in reputed journals and conferences.
  • The candidate should preferably be below 35 years of age

Eligible candidates with less than the requisite experience may be taken as Assistant Professor (Contractual basis) in the pay band of Rs.15600 – 39100PB3 with appropriate higher starting pay based on post-doctoral experience.

** In view of the specialized sector-specific courses, programs and research focus, NRTI may consider extensive industry experience in lieu of an academic postgraduate or doctoral degree.

Assistant Professor on contractual basis* :

For fresh hires, minimum pay to be fixed at Rs.79,800/- in Level 12 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix (Gross Pay including DA but excluding Transport Allowance & HRA will be Rs. 86,982/- approx.)
Candidates not eligible for Assistant Professor may be appointed as Assistant Professor (Contractual Basis). At the entry level they may be placed in Pay Band – 3 of Rs. 15,600 – – 39,100 with AGP of Rs. 6,000/ and shall move after 1 year to AGP of Rs.7,000/ and after 3 years to AGP of Rs. 8000/ with a minimum basic pay of Rs. 30000/ (Gross Pay excluding HRA Rs. 92,700/p.m). On completion of 3 years’ service as Assistant Professor with AGP of Rs. 8,000/, shall move to Pay Band – 4 (Rs.37,400 – 67,000) with an AGP of Rs.9,000/- (Gross Pay excluding HRA Rs. 1,11,600/p.m.). Aforementioned scales are as per 6th CPC.

  • 1.Candidates should have an excellent academic record, good communication skill and demonstrated ability to carry out original and creative research.
  • 2.Mere fulfilment of qualifications and experience requirement laid down does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview.
  • 3.Selection of candidates who hold a non-Indian passport will be subject to political and security clearance from Ministries of External Affairs and Home Affairs.
  • 4.Appointment of foreign nationals who are “Persons of Indian Origin” (PIO) or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), will be subject to permission from Govt. of India. Appointment of other Foreign Nationals will be on contract for a period of 5 years subject to permission from the Govt. of India.
  • 5.Persons employed in Government/Semi-Government Organization or Educational Institutions must apply through proper channel and provide No Objection Certificate while applying or at the time of interview.
  • 6.Government of India reservation policy shall be implemented in recruitments as per policy in vogue. The candidates belonging to the reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) are required to attach the Caste/Category Certificate in the format as prescribed by the Govt. of India. The Institute follows the Central list in the case of SC/ST, OBCs & PwD.
  • 7.The compensation levels mentioned are as per current structure and may be revised by the University subject to prevailing regulations.
  • 8.Mere eligibility will not entitle any candidate for being called for interview.
  • 9.Applicants who do not fulfill the minimum experience requirements may be offered an appointment on contract. The requirements of minimum qualification and/or experience may be relaxed in the case of candidates with outstanding credentials.
  • 10.Applicant not found suitable for higher positions may be considered for lower positions in the same area of specialization.
